What is a Cognoscopy?

What’s the difference between the Standard and Advanced Cognoscopy?
The Advanced Cognoscopy includes everything in the Standard package, plus four further tests: a p-tau blood test linked to Alzheimer’s changes, chronic infection testing, CIRS testing for mould and biotoxin exposure, and advanced gut testing.
Who is a Cognoscopy for?
It’s for anyone worried about changes in memory, thinking or brain fog, people with a family history of dementia who want to understand their own risk, and anyone who wants a detailed baseline of their brain health.
Where can I get a Cognoscopy?
At CogMission, our brain health clinic at 4 Albyn Place, Edinburgh. Consultations can also take place by video call, and blood tests can be arranged anywhere in the UK.
My GP tests were normal. Is it still worth having a Cognoscopy?
Yes. We test for markers not usually included in routine GP tests, and we look for optimal levels and patterns, not just whether results fall within the normal range.
Do I need to travel to Edinburgh?
No. Blood tests can be arranged with a visiting phlebotomist anywhere in the UK, and consultations can take place by video call.
Do I need a GP referral?
No. You can contact us directly. With your permission, we can share findings with your GP or specialist.
What happens after my Cognoscopy?
You can follow your plan independently, or continue with one of our individual programmes for ongoing support.
Does it replace my GP?
No. Our assessments complement, and do not replace, care from your GP or specialist.
